Overview
Platres — officially Pano (Upper) Platres — sits on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains and is one of the range's largest and most established villages, long a favorite summer retreat from the coastal heat for Cypriots themselves.
The village is built for hiking: trailheads lead directly from the village center to two waterfalls, and the surrounding forest offers views across to Mount Olympus, Cyprus's highest peak, without the altitude or crowds of the summit village itself.
Platres is also wine country — small family-run wineries dot the hillsides around the village, producing local varietals and Commandaria, and several offer tastings alongside cellar tours.
Its central position in the Troodos range makes Platres a natural base for day trips to the postcard villages of Omodos and Kakopetria, both under an hour's drive, without needing to relocate for each stop.
