Meteora from Corfu
Duration: Up to 8 hrsTrip Description
Meteora is a monastic state unlike anything else on earth, rising amid a landscape of towering rock formations. It is one of the most extraordinary sights in Greece, possessing a unique aura and an atmosphere of breathtaking grandeur. The monasteries, perched atop sheer rocky pinnacles, are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
On this excursion you will visit the legendary Thermopylae Pass — the site of the famous battle where 300 Spartans held off the Persian army — before heading to two of the six active monasteries of Meteora: Great Meteoron (Transfiguration of Christ) or Varlaam (All Saints), and Roussanou (St. Barbara) or St. Stephen's. You will capture stunning photographs from the viewing platform and round off the day by sampling local cuisine in the town of Kalambaka, nestled at the foot of the rocks.
